Keep Those Pearly Whites Pearly from the Start
A couple blogs ago I talked about teeth whitening. How it works, whether it’s worth it…you know the ins and outs of it. That got me thinking about teeth staining in general and those of you who still have sparkly white teeth of your very own. If you’re one of those people, you probably aren’t interested in teeth whitening at all, but rather you’d like to know how to keep your pearly whites, well pearly white on their own. And that leads me to today’s topic: How to prevent staining in the first place.
Ameriplan dental plans give you and your family affordable access to a number of great dentists. But no matter how great your dental plan, there is always something more you can be doing at home to ensure your chompers stay in tip-top condition. Here is a look at some of our favorite tips to help you prevent staining your teeth in the first place.
Watch your intake of teeth-staining food and drinks: I think we all know that certain foods and drinks—like coffee, tea, soda, wine, blueberries, beets and soy sauce, just to name a few—can stain your teeth. But you don’t have to deprive yourself completely of these delicious things. Limiting your intake should be good enough and brushing or rinsing after you eat/drink them will help even more.
Sip with a straw: If you use a straw and point it towards the back of your mouth when drinking stain-causing beverages the liquid won’t get near the visible front surfaces of your teeth.
Keep up with your brushing and flossing and rinse with an antibacterial mouthwash: All three of these things help fight and prevent plaque build-up, which will in-turn help prevent staining.
Just say no when it comes to tobacco: It doesn’t matter whether you smoke it or chew it; tobacco use more often than not leads to teeth staining.
So don’t forget, our AmeriPlan discount dental plans will help keep your family’s teeth healthy but the rest is up to you!
